Leanne Topfer


Leanne gained a Bachelor of Laws with first class honours from the University of Tasmania in 1982 and was admitted to practice in 1983.

Leanne practises in a number of areas of law with an emphasis on:
  • Civil litigation - particularly personal injury claims
  • Motor vehicle accidents
  • Medical negligence
  • Workers compensation
  • Insurance claim law
  • Family law property settlements
  • General court work
  • Will and estate disputes

Leanne was President of the Law Society of Tasmania in 2006 and was a member of the Council of the Law Society of Tasmania from 2001 to 2012. She was an Executive member of the Law Council of Australia from 2010 to December 2014. She is a member of the Guardianship and Administration Tribunal, the University of Tasmania’s Governing Council and the Tasmanian Liquor and Gaming Commission. She was the 2017 Recipient of the Law Society President’s Award in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the Legal Profession.

Leanne is married to Colin McKenzie with two sons Simon and Alex, and in her spare time enjoys bike riding, walking, relaxing at Sisters Beach and reading a good book.
